There is no better finish to a bike ride that stunning Cramond Beach

As you can see from the images HERE, Cramond is amazing and has a stunning beach, and only five miles from the centre of Edinburgh. We hope it’s a beautiful summer’s morning and that we get treated to a stunning sunrise (4.30am) over the Firth of Forth. We’ve been lucky so far.

The aim is to congregate at the grassy knoll at the end of the promenade HERE, where there is plenty of room for bikes and for people to chill out on the grass or the adjacent beach. It’s about 200m away from some of the residential properties further along at the harbour, which should help keep disturbance to a minimum. There is plenty of parking behind the Cramond Inn pub if people are getting picked up, and it’s about 20 minutes on the bike into central Edinburgh for those that need a train station.

Fresh Start a local Edinburgh charity that helps homeless people settle into their new homes have very kindly offered to help out with volunteers each year. They will be providing a bacon roll, cup of tea or coffee and a banana all for £5.00 from about 2.30am until 6.30am. This will be available from Cramond Kirk Hall and will be sign posted. It is only 400m from Cramond sea front and we think £5.00 is a bargain for all that considering they are getting up so early to cater for hungry cyclists and remember 100% of the profit will go to helping the amazing work that they do. They raised over £2,800 in 2023. If you’ve enjoyed Ride to the Sun and appreciate our efforts at running a free event, then they’d love any donations that you can pop in their jar.

As with Dunwich Dynamo, there’ll be no sponsors goody bag or medal or any other tat just the satisfaction of having done something a bit different with like-minded folk.

We hope that you’ll have enjoyed it, and be up for it in 2024!
